Occupational Medicine
Occupational medicine focuses on the health, safety, and performance of workers. It involves not only treating employees with workplace injuries, but also helping to prevent future injury. Our goal at Cardinal Urgent Care is to provide the necessary medical care and attention to employees so they can return to work, quickly and safely.
Treating On-the-Job Injuries
Our urgent care specialists work to help you heal after an illness or injury that occurs in the workplace. We are experienced with treating a wide range of health issues and familiar with the requisite laws and state regulations concerning workers’ compensation claims. We provide comprehensive medical care and will communicate with all required parties.
Employment-Related Screenings
At Cardinal Urgent Care, we also provide the following employment-related screenings and tests:
- DOT Physicals. We perform DOT regulated exams and DOT regulated drug screening collections. DOT physicals are done 6 days a week excluding Sundays. We stop DOT exams at 6 pm on weekdays and 3 PM on Saturday.
- Most drivers who have major medical conditions or take medications daily will need medical clearance from their primary care provider or specialist before they can be issued a DOT medical card. If you suffer from any medical conditions (including but not limited to: abdominal aortic aneurysm, angina, anxiety, aortic regurgitation, aortic stenosis, atrial fibrillation/flutter, bipolar disorder, congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, depression, cardiomyopathy, high blood pressure, mitral regurgitation, mitral stenosis, heart attack, sleep apnea, Parkinson's disease, pulmonary valve stenosis, stroke, traumatic brain injury, transient ischemic attack, diabetes, or vertigo) we highly recommend that you call the office prior to your visit so that we can send you medical clearance forms to take to your provider. If you have had any of the following surgeries, you will also need clearance and can call the office for clearance forms: Heart surgery of any kind, brain surgery, spine surgery, and pacemaker insertion. Lastly, if you take any mind altering medications such as but not limited to seizure drugs, narcotic pain medications, stimulants for ADD or ADHD, Suboxone, Chantix, or muscle relaxers, please call for a clearance form. Bringing in clearance forms at the time of your visit will reduce the time it takes for you to obtain your medical card. Please call with any questions.
- Drug Screen Collections. We perform DOT, non-DOT, and rapid point of care drug testing. We offer pre-employment, post-offer, post accident, random, and follow-up drug screening collections.
- TB Testing. This blood test looks for the presence of a tuberculosis infection and is often required for certain professions by state regulation.
- Blood Tests & Vaccines. For example, we run titers blood tests that can determine a person’s antibody levels to confirm whether an individual has immunity to certain viruses. If the test shows that antibody levels are low, a vaccine may be required to increase a person’s immunity to diseases such as chickenpox, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, and rubella. This type of testing is often required for jobs in certain fields, such as healthcare jobs or those involving the preparation of food or the care of children.
We also work directly with employers to ensure your employee screening needs are met on a timely and affordable basis.
